The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has granted almost $20 million to 11 communities. This is through the Indian Community Development Block Grant (ICDBG) program. The funds aim to aid infrastructure development, community facilities, housing rehabilitation, land acquisition, and economic development. These are for American Indian and Alaskan Native communities on Indian reservations and other Indian areas. This follows a previous allocation of $75 million to Tribes for community development in June 2023.

HUD Secretary Marcia L. Fudge highlighted the significance of the funding. She stated it helps Tribal Nations meet community needs and plan for their futures. She also mentioned the administration’s commitment to respecting Tribal Nations’ sovereignty and supporting their growth.

Richard Monocchio, the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Public and Indian Housing, commended the Tribes’ work in their communities. He emphasized the need to address emerging needs in Indian Country with this funding. He also mentioned the importance of supporting Tribes in developing solutions for complex challenges.
