Alaska’s First Lady, Rose Dunleavy, has opened the nomination period for the 2024 First Lady’s Volunteer Awards. These awards, started in 1975 by First Lady Bella Hammond, recognize volunteers who have made significant contributions to their communities and the state. The nomination period for the 2024 awards is from February 8 to March 7.
First Lady Rose Dunleavy thanked the judges and expressed her interest in learning about the nominees. She stressed the importance of acknowledging the work of volunteers. The awards, she said, celebrate the efforts of these individuals.
Nominations can be submitted online at volunteerawards.alaska.gov. Paper applications can also be collected from the Governor’s offices in Anchorage, Juneau, Soldotna, Fairbanks, and Palmer. This allows Alaskans to nominate volunteers from their communities.
The awards ceremony and luncheon are planned to be held at the Governor’s residence in Juneau this spring. This event will publicly acknowledge the award recipients and their contributions to the state.
