Deadline approaching for state to phase out use of dangerous chemicals

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – A deadline is fast approaching for Alaska airports to stop using chemicals that can have a serious impact on human health. Per and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances – collectively known as PFAS – are a host of chemicals commonly found in consumer and industrial products which the Environmental Protection Agency says are harmful to human health and the environment. The chemicals have found their way into drinking water, soil and air, and even the human body, and are often called “forever chemicals” because of the length of time it takes them to break down.
