Former Arizona head softball coach Mike Candrea will serve as interim athletic director beginning on Feb. 2
Arizona Athletic Director Dave Heeke was fired Monday for ‘financial and operational mismanagement,’ according to Action Network’s Brett McMurphy .
Per the report, Heeke’s mistakes led to a ‘financial disaster’ for the department, including losing significant donors and the mishandling of former football coach Jedd Fisch ‘s contract situation.
Fisch was recently selected to fill Washington’s head coach vacancy and Heeke hired Brent Brennan to replace him.
“It has been my honor and privilege to have served the University of Arizona for the last seven years,” Heeke said in a Monday statement .
“I want to thank president (Robert C.) Robbins, our talented coaches, devoted staff and loyal supporters for their partnership on this journey. Most importantly, I want to thank our student-athletes who committed to our standard of excellence by setting all-time academic records and competing for championships. I am very proud of the work we have accomplished together! Bear Down! Go Cats!”
