Power project closes boating traffic on Colorado River between California & Nevada

In a joint effort between Arizona and California, the Ten West Corporation is set to install new power lines across the Colorado River as part of an innovative solar power project. The installation will occur from Tuesday, January 23, 2024, to Tuesday, January 30, 2024, between the hours of 6:00 AM and 5:00 PM.

The project’s location is approximately 5 miles south of I-10, precisely situated at lat/long coordinates 33.538553, -114.548401. To ensure the safety of all involved, the Colorado River in this area will be temporarily closed to all boating traffic during the specified timeframe.

Deputies from Riverside and La Paz Counties will be present to enforce the closure and manage safety concerns throughout the installation process. Boaters and the general public are advised to adhere to this closure for their safety.

Once the solar power project is successfully completed, normal river traffic will resume. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office Colorado River Station emphasizes its commitment to community safety and encourages a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone on the waterway.
