Northern Arizona to get a wintry mix this weekend with upcoming storm system

According to the Arizona Weatherman, there is a frontal system moving through the state starting Thursday evening, 1 Feb, through Saturday evening, 3 Feb 2024. As this system moves through Northern Arizona, it will be a snow and rain wintry mix with the potential for higher snowfall amounts above 6,500 feet and localized flooding due to heavy rain in other locations.

As the cold front moves across Northern Arizona, anticipate rain and snow potential. In the lower elevations like Kingman and Lake Havasu, expect rain the entire time. Kingman expects a half-inch to an inch of rain potential, while Lake Havasu has about a half-inch of rain. Prescott, a little higher up, will have mostly rain and some snow potential in the morning, with a half-inch to .75” of rain and less than 1.5” of snow. Sedona expects mostly rain, .75” to 1.25” of rain, and a light snow mix. Payson also mostly rain for this event of .80” to 1.5” and 1-3” of snow in the morning.

Flagstaff, higher up in elevation, will get more snow with an expected amount between 6-8 inches, and the Grand Canyon should expect 2-4 inches of snow. Show Low will have a rain/snow mix of 1-3 inches of snow. Therefore, be prepared for driving safely on snowy or flooded roadways and low-lying areas especially in northern Pinal, northeast Maricopa, and Gila Counties this weekend. This wintry mix of weather may pose a significant travel issue depending on location. Be aware of local warnings and advisories for your area before traveling.
