Weather whirlwind: Rain, snow, and wind to impact Northern Arizona, Flagstaff covered in snow

According to the Arizona Weatherman, there are a couple of weather systems coming through the state starting Tuesday, 6 Feb, through Sunday, 11 Feb 2024. As these systems move through Northern Arizona, they will bring in some significant rain, snow, and strong gusty winds for the area.

While two weather systems will move through Arizona over the next week, this article will focus on the first cold front to move through on Tuesday, 6 Feb to 8 Feb 2024. As the initial cold front moves through during this period, a strong upper-level associated jet stream impacts Northern Arizona, bringing in rain and snow, with possible thunderstorms and gusty winds. These conditions may affect travel, so plan accordingly.

Both cities are expected to get gusty winds on Tuesday afternoon, about 20-30 mph. Moving further up on the Mogollon Rim, for the Prescott area, expect a mix of mostly rain and some snow with totals of .75” to 1.50” and possibly 1-3 inches of snow. For Sedona, expect mostly rain with 1.00” to 2.00” possible and less than an inch of snow. For Payson, expect 1.00” to 2.00” of rain and possible 1-3 inches of snow.
