Agents and union leaders in California and Arizona claim that agent morale has reached an all-time low.
The Epoch Times was informed by Darren Bird, a representative for Local 1613, San Diego, of the National Border Patrol Council union, that agents feel that because of the current increase in illegal immigration, they are effectively breaching the rules they were trained to police.
“We’re now operating like alien traffickers,” he declared. We are acting in a manner contrary to our training. In essence, we are responsible for smuggling aliens. We’re facilitating their unauthorized entry into the nation,” he declared. “Morale is currently at a “all-time low.”
More than six agents from California and Arizona, who talked to The Epoch Times under the condition of anonymity to avoid reprisals, concur that the Biden administration’s “three years of lax border policies” had severely damaged morale.
Agents are aware that troubled Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas hasn’t backed them, according to Mr. Bird. Mayorkas was almost impeached by the House of Representatives on February 6 on a vote of 214–216 for suspected neglect of duty.
