The ongoing resistance in Texas against illegal border crossing has led to increased entries in Arizona, California, and New Mexico where similar policies are not in place. Governor Greg Abbott’s Operation Lone Star aims to prevent illegal entry with National Guard soldiers and Texas DPS officers focusing on interdiction and arrests of illegal foreign nationals. The strategic goal is to block entry and enforce consequences for those who make it through.
Mike Banks, the border czar, highlighted the redirection of smuggling operations to neighboring states due to Texas’ strong resistance efforts. Texas, accounting for 30% of illegal crossings, has significantly reduced apprehensions recently, while Arizona and California have seen increases. Texas’ five CBP sectors have historically been key areas for illegal crossings, with New Mexico also contributing a significant number to the El Paso Sector.
Despite recent fluctuations in apprehension numbers, Texas is committed to maintaining control and expanding efforts to curb illegal entry into the state. The collaboration between the National Guard, Texas DPS, and federal agencies has intensified at the border, working in tandem to disrupt smuggling networks and illegal activities.
