Arizona Faces Unexpected Wave of Layoffs

It looks like Arizona is facing a tough wave of job cuts across various industries. Recent WARN notices have revealed a series of layoffs that have caught many by surprise. Under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act, businesses with over 100 employees are required to give a 60-day heads-up before laying off 50 or more employees at a single site, and it seems like quite a few companies are hitting that threshold.

One of the latest to announce cuts is Newrez, a company in Tempe, which is letting go of 78 staff members. But they’re far from alone in this latest round of layoffs affecting the state.

Here’s a rundown of some other major layoffs happening around Arizona:

  • Northrop Grumman is cutting a significant 543 jobs in Chandler.
  • Panera Bread is closing its dough-making facility in Chandler, impacting 64 workers.
  • Evernorth Care Group has announced the layoff of 261 employees in Scottsdale.
  • TuSimple and Kalil Bottling Company are also reducing their workforces in Tucson, with Kalil Bottling laying off 546 staff.
  • Over in Phoenix, the All of Us Research Program, Obvio Health, Walmart, and Savers are all trimming numbers as well, with layoffs ranging from 42 to 74 employees.
  • Devine Holdings in Mohave Valley has also filed notice of layoffs.
