Severe Weather & Heavy Snow Possible Across Parts of Utah, Arizona, Colorado, and New Mexico

Vigorous Low Pressure System to Bring Wide Array of Weather Conditions

10/17/24 9:28am

Good morning everyone. We’re watching a powerful low pressure system coming into the Pacific Northwest that is expected to dip down into the Rockies and emerge out into the western Plains.

As it does, we’re expecting this storm to produce a wide array of weather conditions; from strong to severe thunderstorms, to very heavy snows in the higher elevations across parts of Utah, Arizona, Colorado, and New Mexico over the next 48-96 hours.

While we’ve seen a few low pressure systems impact the Washington and Oregon already, this will be the first of the season that takes a more southerly route. In doing so, it’ll bump into warmer and more humid air, setting the stage for some severe weather possible.

Look for the risk of damaging winds, large hail, frequent lightning, and torrential rain beginning tomorrow as the day wears on. Those highest at risk will be across lower elevations, plateaus, and valley areas of Utah, Arizona, Colorado, and New Mexico.
