Meghan McCain reveled in the projected defeat of Kari Lake in her bid to become Arizona’s next senator — a post her father, the late John McCain, held for more than 30 years.
In a post to X (formerly Twitter) late Saturday, McCain shared a variation of a meme from the movie Mean Girls — in which Lake’s face was superimposed on a character stating a version of an iconic catchphrase from the film.
“Get in loser, we’re going losing!” The meme said.
Lake repeatedly attacked John McCain during her 2022 campaign for governor — calling him a “loser,” in one particularly infamous moment. Meghan McCain denounced the attack on her father as “disgusting and hateful.”
Early on in her 2024 senate campaign, Lake tried to bury the hatchet with the late senator’s daughter.
“[I] know we both agree that our children’s future is too important to let it slip away over past grudges or hurt feelings,” Lake wrote to Meghan McCain on X in February 2024. She added, “I want to make Senator McCain…proud.”
Meghan McCain responded tersely.
