According to the Arizona Weatherman, the weather pattern will change this weekend, 15-17 Nov 2024, with strong gusty winds and rain expected for parts of Arizona. As fall-like temperatures finally made their way to the state, the next system will sweep through this weekend.
A cold front followed by an upper-level low will impact the state starting Friday and going through Sunday. The first impact on Arizona will be strong, gusty winds on Friday afternoon. On Friday afternoon, expect 35-45 mph wind gusts for the Mogollon Rim and northern Arizona. Also expect 20-30 mph winds for southern Arizona. On Saturday, the winds will shift eastward and hang in there at 30 mph.
On Sunday, as the upper-level low gets in place over southern Arizona, rain will be expected to impact the southern section of the state, primarily for Santa Cruz, Eastern Pima, Eastern Pinal, Cochise, Graham, Greenlee, and Gila Counties. Expect a half inch or less of water equivalent for Sunday. The bulk of the rain will impact New Mexico, which will likely have rainfall amounts of over one inch. The models are still not in agreement on rain totals but they are in agreement that rainfall is likely for southeastern Arizona on Sunday. Also, snow in the mountains is likely for the higher peaks on Sunday for Southern Arizona up to the Mogollon Rim.
