Arizona troopers arrest driver accused of firing gun on I-10 on Christmas Eve

State troopers arrested a Mexican national on suspicion of firing a gun while driving on Interstate 10 on Tuesday night.

At about 11:30 p.m., Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers responded to a call of someone shooting from a black Chevrolet Tahoe traveling westbound on I-10 near Guadalupe Road. Authorities received no reports of injuries or property damage.

Another driver reported the shooting to DPS and followed the Tahoe from a safe distance, providing updates to the dispatcher, DPS confirmed.

State troopers caught up with the shooter and performed a traffic stop on northbound Interstate 17 and Glendale Avenue near north Phoenix. The 24-year-old driver, who was identified Thursday night as Luis Ventura Mendivil Mendez of Mexico, was arrested without incident, DPS said.

He was booked into a Maricopa County jail on suspicion of DUI, discharging a firearm in the city limits, disorderly conduct with a weapon and possession of a firearm by a prohibited possessor.
