Former Arizona U.S. Rep. Gabby Giffords has released a statement commemorating the 14th anniversary of the worst day of her life , and the lives of many others.
It begins , “Fourteen years ago my life changed forever, as did so many others. Not a day goes by where I don’t think of the six people who were tragically killed on Jan. 8, 2011. They are always with me. In the face of this senseless act of violence, I remain inspired by the courage that Tucson has shown in the intervening years.”
Giffords is a good and gracious and, at the same time, fierce woman.
She and her husband, Arizona U.S. Sen. Mark Kelly, have proven to be resilient against all odds. Against overwhelming financial and political opposition from the firearms lobby. Against all manner of insults and taunting by gun nuts.
Arizona lawmakers disrespected mass shooting
Against even the disrespect shown her by Arizona’s lawmakers.
Like when, only a few months after the mass shooting that killed six others and almost killed Giffords, the Republicans running the Arizona Legislature passed a bill, signed into law by then Republican Gov. Jan Brewer, making the Colt single action Army revolver the state’s official firearm .
