SWEPCO issues RFPs for additional power generation resources

Southwestern Electric Power Co. (SWEPCO) is seeking submissions for three different request for proposals (RFPs) it issued for additional generation and capacity resources.

The additional generation is needed to supply the needs of its customers and comply with Southwest Power Pool’s planning reserve margin requirement.

The RFPs will solicit bids for the purchase of resources of up to 2,100 MW of accredited capacity through a range of sources, including natural gas, wind, solar, and storage resources. These future projects will further diversify SWEPCO’s generation resource mix.

It should be noted that SWEPCO is requesting proposals for these resources through purchase and sale agreements (PSA), power purchase agreements (PPA) and capacity purchase agreements (CPA).

Proposals can be submitted on the SWEPCO website and are due by April 3. Proposals selected from the three RFPs are subject to appropriate regulatory approvals.

SWEPCO serves more than half a million homes and businesses in Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas. It territory includes more than 25,000 distribution line miles.
