LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced a comprehensive plan on Wednesday to refurbish and upgrade the Arkansas School for the Deaf and School for the Blind.

Sanders was joined by a large group in making the announcement, including Education Secretary Jacob Olivia and a bipartisan group of legislators alongside officials from the school and a family with a student in the School for the Blind.

“We are all gathered here to make an announcement about something that I think is long overdue for a campus and students just a few blocks from right here.” the governor said. “A comprehensive plan for ASD and ASB that I hope will finally deliver the services that visually and hearing-impaired Arkansans deserve.”

The announcement did not get into specifics of changes, although in responding to questions Sanders did say $30 million had been put aside by the legislature in 2021 for improvements to the schools, then acknowledging the bipartisan legislators in attendance as a sign more funding would be forthcoming.
