End of an Era: Iconic Michigan Outdoor Brand Closes Final Locations

Michigan Loses Homegrown Outdoor Retailer in Sudden Nationwide Shutdown

Moosejaw, an iconic outdoor retailer with roots in Michigan, is set to close its last three locations just a year after being acquired by Dick’s Sporting Goods. The final closures will affect stores in Birmingham, Michigan, as well as stores in Utah and Arkansas. This move comes after Dick’s previously shuttered 11 Moosejaw stores across several states, including Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Kansas, Michigan, and Missouri.

Founded in 1992 by Robert Wolfe and David Jaffe, Moosejaw became renowned for its unique “Moosejaw Madness” branding and quirky retail experience. The flagship store, originally in Keego Harbor, relocated to Birmingham and became a beloved fixture in the community.

Dick’s Sporting Goods had initially expressed optimism about the acquisition, with President Todd Spaletto stating, “We admire what Moosejaw has accomplished over the past 30 years as leaders in the outdoor industry and look forward to the opportunity to share insights and learn from one another.”
