Red Cross sends 51 from Missouri, Arkansas for Hurricane Helene relief

ROGERS, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — The Missouri and Arkansas Red Cross Region has sent 51 individuals to support disaster relief efforts following the devastating impact of Hurricane Helene.

Among them, three responders from the Northwest Arkansas Red Cross chapter are assisting with shelter operation. As the demand for help grows, the number of volunteers from the region is expected to increase, according to a news release.

“When disasters strike, Red Cross volunteers are there to provide comfort, shelter and hope to families in their darkest moments,” Julie Brown, Executive Director of the Red Cross of Northwest Arkansas, said. “They are the lifeblood of our efforts to ensure no one faces a crisis alone.”

Multiple counties under burn bans as drought continues

Those willing to travel this fall to support emergency shelters for disaster survivors can sign up at redcross.org/volunteer .

Applicants must complete training and commit to a two-week deployment, according to the release. While prior disaster experience is not required, individuals with strong supervision, management or organizational skills are encouraged to apply.
