A Los Angeles County doctor was sentenced to 15 years in prison for fraudulently billing Medicare for more than $45 million in Botox injection services that were “medically unnecessary and never provided,” according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
Glendale-based doctor Violetta Mailyan, 45, owned and operated Healthy Way Medical Center, a clinic that claimed to provide beauty and cosmetic services, according to the DOJ’s news release.
“Although Medicare reimburses medical providers for Botox injections when necessary to treat documented cases of chronic migraines, Mailyan billed and received payments for thousands of injections that were never provided,” the release said…
