Newsom promotes generous tax credit aimed at getting poor Californians out of poverty

Governor Gavin Newsom has issued a proclamation designating January 26, 2024, through February 2, 2024, as CalEITC Awareness Week, highlighting California’s commitment to reaching all eligible working families and children to provide essential financial support.

The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) is recognized as one of the most impactful tools in the fight against poverty, significantly benefiting working families and children. Governor Newsom’s proclamation emphasizes the state’s dedication to ensuring that all hardworking families eligible for the EITC and associated programs receive the support they need, contributing to the overall success and well-being of children.

California has not only implemented its own version of the EITC, known as the California Earned Income Tax Credit (CalEITC), but has also taken significant steps to enhance the program’s accessibility. Last year alone, CalEITC provided additional resources to nearly 3.5 million California filers, offering a crucial financial boost to help meet basic needs and support families.
