Theives Ruthlessly Targeting Rural Farms and Ranches in California

Authorities have issued warnings to farmers and ranchers in rural California communities, urging them to take precautions amidst a large surge in agricultural thefts happening across the state.

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office has revealed a concerning trend where thieves are targeting farmers and ranchers, stealing valuable equipment, livestock, and even beehives.

And according to the Colusa County Sheriff’s Department (CCSD) suspects have been breaking into agricultural irrigation pumps and electrical junction boxes to cut and strip the copper wires. The CCSD says the damaged or removed wires cause electrical issues, including stopping the flow of necessary water to farmers.

The thefts, described as a “growing problem in rural areas,” encompass a range of items including heavy equipment, aluminum pipes, commodities, cattle, and expensive farm chemicals.

Just last week, authorities disclosed the theft of nearly 100 beehives from a field adjacent to the 5 Freeway in Central California.

Stay frosty California. It’s rough out there.
