Governor Gavin Newsom has announced the start of a new service year for the California Service Corps, aiming to engage 10,000 members who will collectively contribute over five million service hours in 2025. The ambitious initiative emphasizes California’s values of civic duty, mutual understanding, and community upliftment.
“With the nation’s largest service corps, we reaffirm that service to others is the highest form of civic duty,” Governor Newsom said. “When we lift others, we all rise together.”
The California Service Corps will tackle pressing issues, including mentoring and tutoring K-12 students, supporting disaster-stricken communities, addressing food insecurity, and taking climate action by planting trees, preventing wildfires, and installing solar panels. Programs under this effort include #CaliforniansForAll College Corps, Youth Service Corps, California Climate Action Corps, and AmeriCorps California.
