California Launches Energy Rebate Program for Low-Income Households To Curb Inflation Impact

California is taking a bold step towards energy efficiency with the launch of the federally funded Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates (HEEHRA) program. The California Energy Commission (CEC), in partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy, announced $80 million in rebates for multifamily building owners to adopt efficient electrification projects like heat pump systems and electric appliances.

This initiative, part of the Inflation Reduction Act, focuses on low- and moderate-income households, aiming to cut greenhouse gas emissions while improving building resilience. Single-family homeowners can expect rebate applications to open soon for heat pump installations.

Governor Gavin Newsom celebrated the program, emphasizing its dual impact of reducing costs and tackling climate change. Applications are now live through TECH Clean California, a network dedicated to accelerating energy equity statewide.
