State, federal leaders implore embattled California Sheriff to resign, says she’s a liability

San Mateo County’s political leaders are calling for Sheriff Christina Corpus to step down after a report revealed troubling misconduct within her office. On Monday, U.S. Reps. Kevin Mullin and Anna Eshoo, State Sen. Josh Becker, and Assemblymembers Marc Berman and Diane Papan criticized Corpus, stating her leadership endangers public safety and burdens taxpayers with avoidable liabilities. An investigation led by former Judge LaDoris Cordell uncovered abuse of power, retaliation, and other disturbing behaviors within the Sheriff’s Office. Despite the calls for resignation and the Board of Supervisors’ vote last week, Corpus refuses to step down, defending herself and promoting her embattled chief of staff.
