9-year-old with developmental disability chosen to light California State Capitol tree

(FOX40.COM) — 9-year-old Carter Morris from Central California will be joining Governor Gavin Newsom and First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom to light the California State Capitol tree.

The ceremony is on Wednesday at 7 p.m. and is on the west steps of the Capitol, facing Capitol Mall.

The ceremony will be livestreamed on the governor’s social media accounts: YouTube , X ( formally known as Twitter) , and Facebook .

According to a news release, this year’s festivity will be the 41st consecutive year that the ceremony will feature a child with a developmental or intellectual disability and who receives support from one of California’s nonprofit regional centers.

Morris was born in 2014, is one of six siblings and has received help from Central Valley Regional Center (CVRC). He was chosen to represent more than 450,000 Californians with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
