Rain Soaks Northern California, Heavier Downpours Expected Late Week

EUREKA, CA – Northern California is bracing for a wet start to 2025 as light to moderate rain continues through Thursday, focusing north of Cape Mendocino. The National Weather Service predicts heavier rain late Thursday night into Friday, increasing the risk of minor urban flooding in Del Norte and northern Humboldt counties.

Rainfall rates could reach 0.25 to 0.50 inches per hour, especially in mountain areas. By Friday, the rain will extend south into Mendocino and Lake counties as a cold front weakens. Urban flooding, small stream overflows, and landslide risks are possible.

Colder air arriving Friday may bring gusty winds, small hail, and isolated storms. A drier stretch is expected next week, offering relief across the region.
