(INSIDE CALIFORNIA POLITICS) — California Assembly Republican leader James Gallagher (R-Yuba City) said he still believes Democrats could lose their supermajority in the California Legislature over the next few election cycles.
Gallagher said the gains Republicans made in the state in 2024, including flipping three legislative seats from Democrat to Republican, could be continued so long as the party focuses on what matters to people.
“We’re going to keep talking about these issues that people care about, the rising cost of living, for example how do we repeal this new gas tax that CARB (California Air Resources Board) foisted upon all of us here recently,” Gallagher said. “How do we increase our public safety? We passed Prop. 36 but it needs to be implemented…”
Gallagher noted that despite California’s popularly being thought of as a solid blue state, voting preferences can change.
“Texas was once a blue state and slowly but surely it became a red state,” Gallagher said. “California actually was a more red state at one time but it shifted more blue.”
