In the midst of an ongoing political storm, U.S. Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO) has publicly announced that he will not support the impeachment of Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. The impeachment process, initiated due to Mayorkas’ alleged mismanagement of the border crisis, has polarized the House, drawing both fervent support and criticism.

Buck, who has represented Colorado’s 4th Congressional District since 2015, made this announcement on MSNBC. His decision not to back his party’s push for impeachment comes despite the fact that two articles of impeachment were filed against Mayorkas this past Sunday.

The charges against Mayorkas are severe, with Republicans accusing him of “high crimes and misdemeanors” including a “willful and systemic refusal to comply with the law” on immigration issues. Many GOP lawmakers have argued that impeachment is their “only viable option” as illegal alien entries surged past record highs in 2022 and 2023. Since President Joe Biden took office in January 2021, it is estimated that more than 10 million illegal aliens have entered the United States.
