LARIMER COUNTY (KDVR) — Currently in the United States there are tens of thousands of horses born in the wild.
They have no owners and they are called mustangs. Some are captured by government agencies. Some are rescued. But a few lucky ones wind up at a Larimer County horse rescue.

Every morning at Swanson Acres starts out pretty much the same. Cleaning, feeding, training and loving: That is the goal of the Wild Rose Mustang Advocacy Group.
“We would love to get all the horses that are currently in holding pens and get them trained and help them find their forever homes,” said Stephanie Swanson, WRMAG board member. “Right now there’s about 50,000 in pens.“
In addition to the 50,000 horses in pens, there are approximately 80,000 more horses and burrows roaming wild in the United States.
“There are thousands of wild horses just roaming through Wyoming and Colorado. Just right here in our own backyard,“ said Swanson.
