Strategic Apprehension: Joint Task Force Captures Top Colorado Sex Offender in Cheyenne

In a coordinated effort, the Cheyenne Police Department, alongside the Wyoming Fugitive Task Force, successfully apprehended a highly sought-after individual from Colorado’s most wanted sex offender list. Identified as Ben Murray, this individual was located at a hotel in Cheyenne, marking a significant arrest for law enforcement agencies.

Ben Murray, who holds the notorious distinction of being number eight on the Colorado Bureau of Investigations’ list of 100 most wanted sex offenders, faced multiple felony warrants in Colorado. These include a parole violation dating back to August 2020 and failure to comply with sex offender registration requirements as of April 2023. Murray’s criminal history extends over several decades, with charges including the sexual assault of a minor.

The hunt for Murray initiated on Tuesday when the District of Colorado’s Violent Offender Task Force sought the Wyoming authorities’ help. The ensuing search, led by investigators from Wyoming’s Fugitive Task Force, spanned several days. Murray, who had been eluding capture under various aliases in Cheyenne, was finally located and arrested on Thursday evening at 6:40 p.m. in a hotel on Lincolnway. The arrest was executed smoothly, without any complications.
