Colorado is home to one of the best beaches in the US

DENVER ( KDVR ) — Yes, you read that right. A Colorado beach was named one of the best in the nation because even though the state is landlocked, you don’t need the ocean to have a beach.

First, let’s look at what defines a beach . According to Merriam-Webster, a beach is a “shore of a body of water covered by sand, gravel, or larger rock fragments.” Per National Geographic , that body of water can be an ocean, lake or river.

While most think of beaches as land along an ocean, a local spot is considered a beach because it runs along a river.

Travel and Leisure released a list of 25 beaches they deemed the best in the U.S. While several locations were in California and Hawaii, one Colorado spot made the list.

Your first thought might be that the creek is not a beach, but by definition it is.
