WATCH: Mountain lion pulls carcass across lawn

A video posted to X by Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) Northeast Region shows a mountain lion dragging an animal carcass across a lawn.

The caption states that the video shows “a rare look at a mountain lion on its way to cache (or store) its food.” CPW goes on to explain that the lion will return to the cache over the next few days to continue eating.

According to CPW , mountain lions will drag carcasses to a sheltered spot and cover them with dirt, leaves, or snow, returning to feed on them over a few days. They will usually move the carcass and re-cover it after each feeding.

CPW also cautions that mountain lions can be dangerous to people when they are feeding. CPW states that mountain lions that have been fed by people or appear “tame” may unexpectedly become aggressive.
