All eyes are on Colorado’s congressional contests in the 2024 election.
State of play: The most competitive race is the 8th District where incumbent Democrat Yadira Caraveo is seeking reelection for the first time.
- Caraveo, a former state lawmaker, won by fewer than 1,700 votes in 2022 and now faces another Latino candidate, Republican state Rep. Gabe Evans.
- Most notably, the two candidates are split on the issue of abortion .
The intrigue: In the 3rd District, Adam Frisch’s well-funded campaign is looking for an upset in this conservative-leaning Western Slope district. He narrowly lost in 2022 to U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert .
- Boebert is now running in the 4th District covering parts of Denver’s southern suburbs and the Eastern Plains. She faces Democrat Trisha Calvarese, who is looking to do the improbable in the state’s most Republican-leaning district.
- In the 6th and 7th districts, incumbent Democrats are expected to hold their seats.
The bottom line: The 8th District seat is the type of race Democrats need to win to regain the majority in the U.S. House, and Republicans must hold the 3rd and 4th districts to keep their majority alive.
