4-plus feet of snow could hit Colorado mountain range this weekend

On Friday afternoon, the National Weather Service released their prediction for snowfall around Colorado through Sunday evening – and it’s showing that big totals are expected in part of the state.

In the ‘most likely’ scenario, up to three feet of snow could land in the Park Range, located east of Steamboat Springs. The high-end forecast – with a 10 percent chance of coming to fruition – ups this total to somewhere between 48 and 60 inches.

Meanwhile, the central mountains should get snow between 12 and 24 inches on most peaks during the same timeframe, potentially up to 36 inches in the high-end scenario. Select peaks in the southwest could also see similar totals, though though their chances of reaching into that foot-plus range increase greatly if the ‘high-end’ forecast holds true.

One spot to watch out for when it comes to travel will be I-70, with double-digit totals expected along the oft-problematic stretch of Vail Pass.

Peaks in southern Colorado, along with those along the Front Range are mostly missed by the snow. There should be no snow-related travel impacts along the I-25 corridor.
