6-12 inches of snow by weekend’s end for Colorado’s ski areas Whiteout snow report

More snow is on the way for Colorado’s high country after the New Year’s Day snow storm overproduced at a few ski areas giving skiers and riders more powder snow to play in than expected.

Of the four Colorado ski areas most likely to have the ‘most snow in Colorado’ at the beginning of January (Wolf Creek, Steamboat, Winter Park and Silverton), Copper Mountain is sitting at No. 1 with 161 inches. For contrast, in winter 2020-21, Copper Mountain only recorded 185 inches of snow for the entire season, according to OnTheSnow.com.

The next snow event happens Saturday night through Sunday and is forecast to add moderate snow amounts to the already ample amounts since New Year’s Day.

Recap:

Skiers and riders woke up to between 2-10 inches of snow for Thursday’s first chairs across much of Colorado’s northern mountain ski areas and resorts.

Ski areas from Ski Cooper in Lake County to Eldora Mountain Resort in Boulder County saw the highest totals, including Breckenridge, where 7 inches of snow was recorded before lifts started turning at 8:30 a.m., (powder rider photo below).
