A group took the first step to repeal Colorado’s wolf reintroduction program Friday, just over a year after Colorado’s first reintroduced wolves were released on the Western Slope as mandated by a 2020 voter-approved ballot initiative.
Colorado Advocates for Smart Wolf Policy has submitted a draft statutory proposition for the measure to be placed on the state’s 2026 ballot. The Colorado Legislative Council Staff will review and comment on the proposition 10 a.m. Jan. 17, one of numerous steps necessary — including gathering enough valid signatures — for the measure to make it on the ballot.
Proponents listed on the measure are Stan VanderWerf and Spencer Thomas.

The group states on its website that it is advocating for the repeal of the wolf reintroduction law to help those “who have felt the negative impacts of the wolf reintroduction, such as ranchers, farmers, sportsmen, hunters, and hunting guides.”
