Denver weather: Winter weather advisory posted Tuesday as snow falls across the metro area

A winter weather advisory for metro Denver and several areas of northeastern Colorado is in effect until noon Tuesday.

Denver residents can expect snow today, mainly before 1 p.m., according to the National Weather Service in Boulder. Today’s high will be near 25.

Northeast winds will blow between 5 to 7 mph, with a chance of precipitation at 80%. Total daytime snow accumulations of 1 to 2 inches are possible.

“Light snow this morning for lower elevations and foothills, coinciding with the morning commute,” the NWS said. “Snow showers will largely taper off by the afternoon. It’ll be very cold, with nighttime lows in the single digits for the plains and urban corridor, and below minus 10 to minus 20 in the high mountain valleys.”

Tonight expect partly cloudy skies, with a low around 10. Light and variable winds become south around 5 mph after midnight.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 37. South wind around 6 mph.

Thursday: Snow likely, mainly before 11 a.m. Cloudy, with a high near 33. Light northwest wind becoming north 5 to 10 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
