Warmer temperatures in Delaware expected to remain a while

MIDDLETOWN — National Weather Service meteorologist Mike Lee described the quick transition from heavy snow to potential 60-plus-degree temperatures as “slightly mind boggling.”

And yet he said what is happening in Delaware within the past week “isn’t terribly unusual.”

What is atypical, however, is the rising temperatures in the First State. Mr. Lee said they will be 10 to 15 degrees warmer than past years the next few days.

According to NWS forecasters, , higher than average temperatures are expected in the next one to two weeks as well.

“There may be a cold spurt here and there too,” he said.

That warm trend could continue over the next three months or so as well, Mr. Lee said.

“It’s pretty close to equal the chance of there being warm above-normal temperatures or cold and below normal, but it’s leaning a little bit warmer for the next couple months,” he said.

The forecast has temperatures between 56 and 61 in Dover Thursday, with 100% chance of rain. Precipitation between a quarter and half an inch is possible. A 70% chance of rain is possible tonight.
