Delaware treasurer to miss time for surgery

DOVER — State Treasurer Colleen Davis is slated to miss upcoming meetings and events to receive medical treatment, she announced Monday.

The two-term treasurer and candidate for Delaware’s lone seat in the U.S. House of Representatives said that, later this week, she will undergo a preventative bilateral mastectomy as part of a multi-faceted treatment plan.

After health issues with family members, Ms. Davis said she recently underwent testing to determine if she too were at risk for “serious medical conditions.”

“Test results showed genetic mutations that put me at an increased risk of both breast and ovarian cancer. It turned out that testing would become the first of a three-step process for me and my family,” the treasurer said in a statement.

In late 2023, Ms. Davis took a two-day leave as she underwent surgery to remove her ovaries, which went “smoothly” with a successful recovery period, she said.

That was the second step in the process after testing, and the third will take place later this week.
