Bob Marley’s birthday concert, Talib Kweli, Sonia Sanchez & more events

Did the first month of the New Year kick your butt, and now you’re ready to recharge? If so, this weekend (and beyond) might have your name on it.

Hi there, I’m Andre Lamar, your bridge to cool events in Delaware. Here’s a look at the DO Delaware newsletter, a preview of fresh entertainment that should be on your radar this weekend.

Celebrate ‘Bob Marley Birthday Concert’

Although Bob Marley was born in Jamaica, the reggae icon lived in Wilmington, on and off, from the mid-1960s to 1977.

Local reggae band Spokey Speaky will honor the legendary artist through the 12th annual “Bob Marley Birthday Concert” this weekend, dishing up a full night of Marley tunes from classics to deep cuts. Marley’s official birthday is Feb. 6.

The Queen (500 N. Market St., Wilmington) at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2. Tickets $20 (plus fees). Visit thequeenwilmington.com or call (302) 400-7020.

Clean comedy show in Wilmington

If jokes with cursing aren’t your flavor, you might enjoy Let ’em Cook’s clean comedy show. The event includes a special appearance from “one of the kings of Delaware comedy” and winner of the 2023 Comedy Pioneer Award: Don “Jream” Hines, per the event’s description.
