Delaware Celebrates Record Low in Violent Crime

Delaware has achieved a significant milestone in public safety, marking its lowest violent crime rates since records began. The state, known for its proactive approach to law enforcement and community safety, has witnessed a 40% decrease in violent crimes since 2008, with a particularly notable 20% reduction in gun violence following a peak during the COVID pandemic in 2020. Furthermore, summer shootings have seen a 40% decrease, showcasing the effectiveness of Delaware’s strategies in combating gun violence and improving overall public safety.

Attorney General Kathy Jennings, alongside law enforcement leaders, recently announced these achievements, attributing the success to a multifaceted approach that targets violent criminals and gun offenders. This collaborative effort involves prosecutors, support staff, local police departments, the Delaware State Police, the Department of Safety and Homeland Security, and various community and non-profit organizations. The collective aim has been to implement lasting reforms that not only reduce crime rates but also address the root causes of violence, such as recidivism and social inequality.
