Delaware’s fastest runners: The best high school sprint and field event athletes 100-31

The first three finishers in class 1 in the first interscholastic track and field meet in Delaware in 1914 were schools that no longer exist in Delaware: Tome Institute of Port Deposit, Wilmington Conference Academy and Wilmington High.

Our list of the greatest 100 sprinters and field event athletes in Delaware history doesn’t quite go back that far, but it does span more than seven decades.

While there are plenty more deserving runners, throwers and jumpers that didn’t make the list, what follows is our best attempt at recognizing the athletes through the years that lent vibrancy and excitement to the Delaware track and field world.
