McClements: Safer supply can save lives in Delaware

Since I started using heroin at Delaware State University in 2016, over 3,000 Delawareans stopped breathing forever because of overdose.

Numbers don’t lie:

  • In 2023, 457 Delawareans stopped breathing forever because of overdose.
  • In 2022, 537 Delawareans stopped breathing forever because of overdose.
  • In 2021, 514 Delawareans stopped breathing forever because of overdose.
  • In 2020, 447 Delawareans stopped breathing forever because of overdose.
  • In 2019, 435 Delawareans stopped breathing forever because of overdose. My cousin was one of them.
  • In 2018, 401 Delawareans stopped breathing forever because of overdose.
  • In 2017, 338 Delawareans stopped breathing forever because of overdose.
  • In 2016, 282 Delawareans stopped breathing forever because of overdose.
