DOVER — Delaware State Housing Authority Director Eugene Young will be stepping down from his cabinet position next month, he announced on Thursday.
Mr. Young made the announcement following his agency’s fiscal year 2025 budget request presentation, stating that he has given his notice to Gov. John Carney and will be leaving office in March.
The authority’s director since May 2021, Mr. Young was nominated by Gov. Carney and approved by the Delaware Senate after serving as Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League president and CEO dating back to 2017.
Mr. Young is one of several Democratic candidates in the crowded race for Delaware’s lone seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, which is being vacated by U.S. Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester, a Democrat, as she runs for the office being vacated by retiring U.S. Sen. Tom Carper.
Six Democrats are running in the primary election, including state Sen. Sarah McBride, D-Wilmington; state Treasurer Colleen Davis; and political newcomers Curtis Aiken, Dexter Bland and Alexander Geise.
