Delaware State Police have arrested Nadeem Cassiem, a 54-year-old from Keasbey, New Jersey. He is suspected of stealing a car on I-95 in Newark. The incident happened on February 7, 2024. Police were called to a crash on I-95 southbound, near State Route 273. They were told that a driver involved in the crash had stolen a car and left the scene.
Investigations showed that a white RAM pickup truck was hit from behind by a red Toyota Rav4, driven by Cassiem. A passerby stopped to help, and Cassiem took the chance to steal the passerby’s Mercury Mountaineer and drive away on I-95.
Police identified Cassiem as the Toyota driver and the car thief. The stolen car and Cassiem were later found in Maryland by Perryville Police Department.
Cassiem was arrested by Perryville Police Department without any issues. He will be sent back to Delaware to face charges.
Once in Delaware, Cassiem will be charged with one felony count of Motor Vehicle Theft and several traffic violations. This incident highlights the potential risks of stopping to help at crash scenes.
