HARRINGTON — Delaware landowners are encouraged to attend a wetland easement workshop from 5-8 p.m. March 19 at the Harrington Fire Hall.
The workshop will help Delaware landowners learn more about the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service Wetland Reserve Easement program and the benefits of restoring proper wetland function in their wet woods or wet, unproductive crop fields while protecting the land from development.
“Wetlands play a vital role in both the environment and our lives,” said Elena Stewart, easement program manager for Natural Resources Conservation Service – Delaware. “They provide habitat for wildlife and improve water quality. Wetlands also reduce soil loss, reduce flooding and recharge groundwater.”
Natural Resources Conservation Service offers financial incentives for landowners to restore and protect wetlands on their property.
At the workshop, Natural Resources Conservation Service easement program staff will provide an overview of the Wetland Reserve Easement program including eligibility, easement types, and payment rates. Wetland Reserve Easement landowners will also be on site to share their first-hand experience with the program.
