Last weekend’s DUI checkpoint in Milford proved successful for Delaware State Police.
State police said 11 total arrests and one seat belt assessment occurred as a result of the checkpoint, which was set up between 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, and 2 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7.
Four of those arrests were DUI arrests. There was an arrest of a wanted person and an arrest on drug charges, according to police, as well as five other traffic arrests.
It was the first DUI checkpoint in Delaware since 2019.
Drivers over the age of 21 with a blood alcohol content of 0.08 or more can be convicted of driving under the influence. First-time offenders could incur a fine of $500-$1,500 and get up to a year in prison.
Drivers could also lose their licenses for one to two years.
According to the Delaware Office of Highway Safety, 31 traffic deaths were related to drugs or alcohol in 2023.
