Food Bank of Delaware sending supplies to Hurricane Helene survivors

A shipment of supplies is on its way from Delaware to the hurricane-ravaged areas of North Carolina and Florida, thanks to an effort by the Food Bank of Delaware.

Lt. Gov Bethany Hall-Long joined officials from the Food Bank and Feeding America on Monday to help load up over 1,000 pounds of infant formula, 18 pallets of bottled water and meal boxes. This infant formula is supplied from the state’s free infant formula distribution program, which was launched after a national formula shortage.

“The food bank that we’re sending these supplies to, the actual physical structure of that food bank is gone,” Food Bank of Delaware CEO Cathy Kanefsky said. “So just to think about what that community is needing and what they’re going through, our hearts break, our hearts grieve, and our hearts are with them, and we’re so thankful for the opportunity to send supplies to them.”

Delaware, and many other states across the country, are working with Feeding America to provide relief to communities devastated from Hurricane Helene. Feeding America is a national network of food banks, meal programs and food pantries that is coordinating disaster relief for the impacted areas.
