Delaware’s general election will take place Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2024 – and the president isn’t the only position to pay attention to.
Delaware will see a new lieutenant governor for the first time since Bethany Hall-Long was elected in 2017. Hall-Long’s campaign for governor fell short to New Castle County Executive Matt Meyer in September’s primary election, and she reached the maximum number of term limits in her eight years.
After a contested primary race that saw three Democratic candidates vie for the office, only one Democrat and one Republican will be on the ballot in November for this race.

Meet the candidates
The lieutenant governor serves as the president of the Delaware State Senate, with the ability to cast a tie-breaking vote. The lieutenant governor also serves as a member of the State Employee Benefits Committee and Budget Commission and is the president of the Board of Pardons. They also act as the gubernatorial successor.
